Director Ketan Mehta approaches Economic Offences Wing to book Kangana Ranaut for “cheating”

Weeks after filmmaker Ketan Mehta sent a legal notice to actress Kangan Ranaut for allegedly ‘hijacking’ his film on Rani Lakshmibai, he has reportedly approached the Mumbai Police’s Economic Offences Wing to book the actress for “cheating and breach of trust”.

According to a report on Mumbai Mirror, Mehta alleges that he and his team were in talks with Kangana for over a decade to star in his film ‘Rani of Jhansi: The Warrior Queen’. However, the two reportedly had a fallout after Kangana herself announced a new biopic ‘Manikarnika – the Queen of Jhansi’ that is being directed by Radha Krishna Jagarlamudi alias Krish.

Speaking to Mumbai Mirror, Mehta said, “We shared various versions of the script and sketch materials with Kangana Ranaut. We were shocked when we came to know that she was making the film within someone else and that’s why we also sent her a legal notice. We have been working on this project for 10 years now and it’s a labour of love. They have hijacked our project and that is not acceptable.”

Mehta also claims that he has suffered a loss of Rs 9 crore because of her actions. The filmmaker has submitted a written complaint, seeking an FIR into the matter. The report states that a probe is on and that Kangana will be summoned to record her statement.

Kangana Raaut’s lawyer, Rizwan Siddiquee has rubbished these claims stating that the actress hasn’t done anything wrong.
